When we set out on this journey a year ago, we had no idea how much it would shape our faith. Living on the road in a caravan, traveling across New Zealand, and embracing a life of simplicity has been both an incredible adventure and a deep lesson in trusting God.
Through every breathtaking view, every challenge, every unexpected blessing, and even the small inconveniences, one truth has remained constant: God has been faithful.

The Blessings of Full-Time Travel in a Caravan
Seeing God's Provision in Every Kilometer
One of the most beautiful parts of this Christian caravan ministry has been witnessing God's provision firsthand. Again and again, he has met our needs in ways that we never could have orchestrated on our own.
When our caravan fridge stopped working, he placed someone in our path with the exact tools and knowledge to fix it.
When we needed a safe place to stay, a perfect spot would open up at just the right time.
When finances felt tight, he provided unexpected gifts, reminders that he knows our every need before we even ask.
Jesus’ words in Matthew 6:32 have come to life for us: our heavenly Father knows what we need. Learning to trust him in the unknown has been a transformative part of this journey.

The Church is Everywhere
An awesome aspect of this journey has been meeting believers all over the country.
Churches have welcomed us with open arms, offering encouragement, prayer, and fellowship.
Families have invited us into their homes, sharing meals, warm showers, and the kindness of Christ in tangible ways.
Strangers have become friends, blessing us with hospitality and reminding us that the body of Christ is not confined to a single building.
Everywhere we go, we see his people—faithful, generous, and eager to extend his love. It is a beautiful picture of the Church as God designed it to be.

The Beauty of Creation Points to the Creator
New Zealand is undeniably one of the most stunning places on earth. Living in a caravan means waking up each morning to the artistry of God’s hand, from snow-capped mountains to endless coastlines.
While famous spots like Tekapo, Taupo, and Kingston have been breathtaking, it is often the lesser-known places that have left the biggest impression.

A secluded beach where we watched the sunset in perfect stillness
A quiet valley where the only sounds were birds and a nearby river
A remote hilltop campsite where the morning sky declared the glory of God
Romans 1:20 tells us that his invisible attributes are clearly seen through what he has made. There is something about witnessing his creation up close that draws our hearts into deeper worship.

Christian Caravan Ministry: The Freedom of Homeschooling on the Road
An unexpected blessing of this lifestyle has been homeschooling our boys while traveling.
Learning is not confined to a classroom—it happens on nature trails, at historic sites, and in everyday experiences.
We have explored science by studying the night sky from remote campsites, history by walking through old trains, and math through real-life problem-solving.
Most importantly, we have had the opportunity to teach our children about God’s world while living in it, seeing his hand in creation and experiencing his provision firsthand.
It has not always been easy, and there have been days when balancing school and travel has felt overwhelming. But the flexibility and freedom it offers have been worth every challenge. Seeing our boys grow in their love for learning—and in their faith—has been one of the greatest rewards of this journey.

The Challenges of RV Travel in New Zealand
Weather That Tests Your Faith
New Zealand’s weather can change in an instant, and we have had more than a few nerve-wracking experiences.
A near flood almost washed us out of a campground after four days of heavy rain and wind.
We have endured hailstorms that pounded our caravan and left us praying that no damage was done.
High winds have rocked us through the night, making sleep scarce and teaching us what it means to trust God in the storm—both literally and figuratively.
These experiences have reminded us of God’s sovereignty over all things. The same God who calms the sea is with us in every storm.

The Reality of Unexpected Costs in Van Life
One of the hidden expenses of van life has been laundromats. It seems like a small thing, but the cost of washing and drying clothes every week really adds up. It is a reminder that even in a life of simplicity, there are still things we need to plan for. But just as he provides in big ways, God has provided for these little details too.
Finding Dog-Friendly Camping is Tough
Traveling with our dog has been both a joy and a challenge.
Having a dog on the road means constant companionship, security, and plenty of beach walks.
But it also means limited camping options since most Department of Conservation sites do not allow pets.
We have had to plan around where our dog is welcome, which has sometimes meant missing out on certain locations.

Thankfully, the New Zealand Motor Caravan Association parks have been a huge blessing. Most of their sites are dog-friendly, making it easier for us to find safe and comfortable places to stay. It is another example of how God has provided exactly what we have needed, even in the small details.
Staying Connected on the Road
A concern before starting this journey was internet access. With homeschooling our boys, staying in touch with family, and continuing ministry, we needed a reliable way to stay connected.
Wireless Nation’s unlimited plan has been a great option, giving us coverage in most areas. There were a few dead spots, but overall, it allowed us to do everything we needed.

We have met other full-time travelers who swear by Starlink for even better coverage, but for now, the cost is a bit high. Whether it is a strong Wi-Fi signal or a conversation with a fellow believer, God has always made a way for us to stay connected when we have needed it most.

One Year Later – Has It Been Worth It?
Without a doubt.
This year has been one of faith, adventure, challenges, and unexpected blessings. It has stretched us, deepened our reliance on God, and opened doors for ministry we never could have planned.
God’s faithfulness has met us at every turn. His provision has been constant. His presence has been undeniable.
Psalm 37:23 says, "The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way." We have seen this truth unfold before our very eyes.
As long as he is leading, we will keep following—one kilometer at a time.
