If you’re looking to make your Bible journaling more meaningful and organized, a simple color-coding system can transform the way you engage with Scripture.

This 5-color Bible highlighting system is designed specifically for intentional Bible journaling, helping you pause to reflect, take action, stay alert to warnings, rest in God’s promises, and recognize Messianic prophecies pointing to Jesus.
Whether you’re new to Bible journaling or want to deepen your study habits, this easy-to-follow color code will help you interact with God’s Word more thoughtfully and see the rich layers of meaning across both the Old and New Testaments.
The 5 Colors and What They Represent
🟨 Yellow — Pause & Reflect
This color invites you to slow down and meditate on Scripture. Highlight verses that call for self-examination, deep thought, or a moment to soak in God’s truth.
Examples:
Psalm 46:10 — “Be still, and know that I am God.”
James 1:19 — “Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.”
🟩 Light Green — Take Action (Go)
Use light green to mark commands, practical steps, or calls to live out your faith. These highlights encourage you to apply Scripture actively in your daily walk.
Examples:
Micah 6:8 — “Do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God.”
James 1:22 — “Be doers of the word, and not hearers only.”
💗 Pink — Warning
Pink draws your attention to warnings about sin, spiritual danger, or consequences of ignoring God’s voice. This color helps keep you spiritually alert and vigilant.
Examples:
Proverbs 16:18 — “Pride goes before destruction…”
Hebrews 3:12 — “Take care, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart…”
🩵 Light Blue — God’s Promises & Encouragement
Highlight God’s faithfulness, comfort, and hope with light blue. These verses anchor your soul when life is tough and remind you of God’s steadfast love.
Examples:
Isaiah 41:10 — “Fear not, for I am with you; I will strengthen you…”
Romans 8:28 — “All things work together for good for those who love God.”
🟧 Orange — Messianic Prophecy
Use orange to spot Old Testament prophecies that point to Jesus as the promised Messiah. This keeps your Bible journaling Christ-centered and connects the story of redemption.
Examples:
Isaiah 7:14 — “The virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”
Micah 5:2 — “From you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel.”
