Now That Jesus Is Risen… What Do We Do?

What are we supposed to do now that Jesus has conquered sin and death? Do we just wait around for heaven? Try to be good? Go back to life as usual?
Let’s look at Peter. I love Peter because he’s relatable. Passionate. Impulsive. Flawed. The kind of guy who speaks before he thinks—and yet Jesus loved him deeply and had big plans for him.
But after the resurrection, Peter wasn’t exactly rushing into ministry. In John 21, he makes a simple statement:
"I'm going fishing."

At first glance, that sounds harmless. But this wasn’t just a little trip to clear his head. Peter was going back to what he used to know. Back to his old life. The nets. The boats. The familiar.
Can you blame him? He had denied Jesus three times. Even though Jesus had risen, maybe Peter still felt disqualified. Maybe he figured, "I messed up. I’ll just go back to what I’m good at."
And then Jesus shows up.
Of course He does.
He makes them breakfast on the beach—how kind is that?—and then He pulls Peter aside and asks him a question, not once, not twice, but three times:
"Do you love Me?"
Each time Peter says yes, Jesus replies with something like:
"Feed My sheep."
In other words:
Don’t go back to fishing.
I’ve got something new for you.
You’re not disqualified. You’re called.
Jesus wasn’t just forgiving Peter—He was inviting him into his purpose. And I think He’s doing the same for us.
Now that Jesus is risen, we don’t just go back to the old life.
We step into the new one.
We feed His sheep.
We love the people around us.
We step into our calling.
We live like the resurrection actually matters.
Because it does.
It means hope wins.
It means grace is real.
It means we’ve got a job to do—right here, right now.
So if you’ve been tempted to say, "I’m going fishing"—meaning, "I’ll just go back to what I know"—can I encourage you to pause and hear Jesus’ voice asking:
"Do you love Me?"
If your answer is yes, then you already know the next step.
Feed His sheep.
Love. Serve. Lead. Give. Share the good news.
Because now that Jesus is risen, we don’t just live differently—we love differently.
And that changes everything.
